Lee Hamilton's Remarks on Classification

Former Congressman Lee H. Hamilton, president and director of The Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars, and vice chairman of the 9/11 Commission, warns about the danger of over-classifying information in a speech at the Information Security Oversight Office Symposim. "I want more information made publicly available," he said. "Representative democracy demands the free flow of information, so that the American people can be informed about the activities of their representatives and their government." Read the speech here.

Knight Foundation Grant to ASNE Funds Sunshine Week 2006

Following the extraordinary success of the first nationwide Sunshine Week last March, the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation in Miami has awarded a second, larger grant to the American Society of Newspaper Editors to implement and expand the open government initiative next spring.

Sunshine Week 2006 will be held March 12-18.
